NBA Free Agency Moves

Free Agency is in full swing in the NBA. This year's free agency was one of the biggest as Lebron James made the decision to join one of the biggest dynasties in NBA history. That's right! "The King" will be joining the Los Angeles Lakers after signing a 4-year $153M deal. Now, the Lakers may be one of the biggest franchise in the league and had one of the greatest players to ever put on a Laker uniform Kobe Bryant, but in recent years they haven't been up to par. This season might be a little different because the Lakers should have some impact this upcoming season as Lebron is coming off one of his best seasons as he averaged 27.2 ppg , 7.2 apg, and 7.4 rpg.

This last season was also like multiple seasons in one for Lebron as the Cavs basically traded the whole team for a new one at the trade deadline during the all-star break. After the all-star break, the Cavs squad went from a well-seasoned vet team to a young rebuilding group, but that didn't stop Lebron on his mission to compete for another championship. Fast forward to the postseason the Cavs had not one but two really good series. The first series was against the Indiana Pacers in Round 1 and the second one was against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, both series were 7 game series. Cleveland was able to win both series to earn a trip to the NBA Finals for the 4th consecutive year against their rival the Golden State Warriors. Cleveland ended up losing that series in a sweep as the Warriors would capture their 3rd NBA championship in 4 years.

Now, that leads us to where we are now. Free agency has been a whirlwind so far with King James going out west to LA, the western conference has gotten more dangerous after their new addition. Lebron wasn't the only one heading to LA, the Lakers picked up some additional pieces as well. Some of those pickups consist of  Javale Mcgee, Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo, and Michael Beasley. So, it looks like the Lakers are going to have a well-established team with a good mix of some vets and the young core.

In other news, Paul George resigned with OKC on a 4-year $137M deal. Now, with PG staying in OKC with Russell Westbrook, they can do some more damage like last season and be one of the best one-two punches in the league. Going to the Mile High City, Isaiah Thomas signed a 1-year $2M  deal with the Denver Nuggets plus he gets to reunite with his former coach in Sacramento when IT first got in the league, Mike Malone. Therefore, even though he went to Denver, it would've been cool to see him return to Boston and wear that Celtic green again. Who's to say it can't happen in the future?

Out in the bay, the Warriors got a major pickup in Demarcus Cousins in a 1-year $5.3M deal, Golden State also got an additional piece in Jonas Jerebko on a 1-year deal. Demarcus's decision made a lot of buzz in the league when he announced that he would be joining the 3x NBA Champion. We all know that Golden State is the number one team to beat on everybody's radar but with 4 all-stars in Steph, Klay, KD, and Draymond? Now, add another all-star in Demarcus to that mix, we are talking about an all-star lineup out in the bay, especially when Demarcus fully recovers from his Achilles injury.

We can all agree that Lob City is officially over in Clipper Town as Deandre Jordan agreed to the Dallas Mavericks. Now, remember DJ agreed to the Mavs once before but backed out to stay with the Clipps but it's official now as DJ signed a 1-year deal with Dallas. Down in San Antonio, Tony Parker agreed to the Charlotte Hornets on a 2-year deal after having a Hall of Fame worthy 17-year career with the Spurs. We are talking about a 5x NBA Champion and one of the generals of the San Antonio big 3. It is going to be weird seeing TP in a Hornet uniform for sure.

Diving deeper in San Antonio, mostly everybody knew about the Khawi Leonard situation and how he wanted out of San Antonio. So, the Spurs granted Khawi's wish as they negotiated a blockbuster trade with the Toronto Raptors that nobody expected. The trade consists of Khawi for a star who help put Toronto Raptor basketball on the map, with the exception of Vince Carter in the late 90s-mid 2000s. The Raptors traded Demar DeRozan who was one of the main counterparts of the franchise.

This also shook the NBA by storm, especially the fans of Toronto. All we can do is see how this plays out with Khawi and Demar switching teams. it would've been nice to see a Raptor big three in Kyle Lowry, Demar Derozan, and Khawi Leonard.  All we can do is see what happens this upcoming season and how it plays out.

Carmelo Anthony will be joining Chris Paul and the current MVP James Harden in Houston. Melo got traded from OKC to Atlanta for  Dennis Schroder, the Hawks waived Melo and now he is ready to sign a 1-year $2.4M deal with Houston. CP3, The Beard, and Melo? Rockets will be going off for sure with this new big three clicks together.

All in all, this upcoming season is going to be interesting with all of these moves. Will the Lakers make an impact and make it to the postseason? How will Demar and Khawi fit with their new teams? Will the new Rocket big 3 Blend? This 2018-2019 NBA season ought to be a good, fun, and entertaining season all at the same time.

This is NBA Basketball.
